Island love

What an incredible first half of 2022 and amazing response from you all. Since OceanEye opened in February we have had 48 guests, 60 divers, 2 spoilt dogs and one host crying in the kitchen.

Never did we imagine that we would be fully booked from start, that we would have such a fun time hosting and that we would meet so many interesting human beings. On top of that, the feedback, and stories you shared with us have made us lost for words. We genuinely thank all of you for joining us here at OceanEye. Can’t wait to see you again.

Have you not been here? Now is the time to book your room! Still not sure? Read on for 9 reasons to get the flight ticket sorted. Api yamu!*

(Oh, and don’t worry, the host in the kitchen cried happy tears as part of an emotional, happiness meltdown.)

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE ISLAND 9 ways

1.     Laid-back lifestyle. The south of Sri Lanka is all about going with the flow and enjoying the little things. Take your time and experience life in colour.

2.     Warm weather. Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with great climate. Thanks to our location on a hill the sunny days of 27-35 ℃ are accompanied by a light breeze.

3.     Flavourful food. Oh, it is so good! Rice & curry, kottu, roti with daal, pol sambol… Explore the local restaurants, smell the freshly ground spices, indulge in sweet fruit that melt in your mouth and eat like a local.

4.     Wildlife wonders. Safaris are great. You can also watch monkeys play in the trees, eagles soar overhead, spike-headed lizards bob their head up and down, peacocks strutting the grass and colourful birds all around - all from your own balcony.

5.     Friendly faces. Many Sri Lankans are curious and caring and will greet you with warmth and big smiles. Learn some simple Sinhala and see that smile get broader.

6.     Gorgeous green. Peaceful, quiet, raw, and wild. The southern province is lush and beautiful. Let your soul ease up and recharge and take in all nature’s beauty. Go a step further and enjoy scuba diving, hiking, kayaking or yoga.

7.     Cultural Ceylon. With a rich culture and many historical sites there is a lot to see and learn. We love the orange hues with temples alive at dusk, waft of incense in the air. And don’t miss the stunning mountain view from Mulkirigala. the Rock temple.

8.     Beach life. Dig your toes into the sand, throw yourself in the waves, enjoy a cold Lion beer and watch the sunset turn the sky peachy.

9.     Reconnect. First light in the morning, wake up to the jungle sounds, see the ocean, take your time eating breakfast, make zero plans or jump into a tuktuk to a waterfall, read a book in the sunken sofa, pick treasures at the beach, get out on a tropical adventure or just do nothing at all. After all, we are on Sri Lanka time.

Join us! Book your room or diving holiday here.

*Let’s go! in Sinhala.
